Default VIO server and FC Card

Hi guys,

I saw a earlier post that FC card connected to a SAN storage are
possible to configure in VIO server and share to client.

What about a delicated FC card which we see as fcs0?
For ethernet, we use mkvdev -sea ..... command to create virtual device
for ethernet. So what about fcs0??? can we share to client??

Thanks
patrick

Patrick!
with VIO you are NOT sharing the adapter itself. That's just what it is
called sometimes "adapter sharing". To make your FC connection
available to your client you take a disk (physical disk or LV in a
already created VG) and use mkvdev and other commands to "export" the
storage device to the client. Just have a look in the corresponding
redbooks.

mikel

Mikel,
But how to use multipath through two VIO servers with dedicated (SAN) disks
allocated to the client and NOT to the VIO server? When assigning storage to
the VIO, you can map LV's as Disk to the client. But I want NO double
assigned storage (two VIO, mirror on client), but the same EMC/ESS disk
straight to the client partition through TWO VIO servers.

yes. i do understand we should take disk or LV and "export" to the
client.
I just want to ensure if there is no way to create a delicated virtual
fcs device. I cant find anything related to this in the web.

thanks
patrick
