| We are looking for an easily transportable, hot-pluggable media to do mksysb's on. One possibility would be a harddrive or tape drive on our SAN. Is IBM hardware with AIX able to boot off of a fiber channel device? Can they boot off of USB or firewire? Thanks, Steven. |

You have to configure your Service Processor to look for bootable FC Devices. Caution: if you have a large number of FC disks on the SAN, this can considerably slow down the boot process. KB |

A recent example on how to make AIX boot from FC EMC or ESS can be found here: http://users.ca.astound.net/baspence...nnel_boot_note s.pdf |

It is possible to boot of a SAN attached hard drive, not sure about tape, but I believe it is possible. RS/6000's do not have firewire or USB AFAIK Steve |

RS/6000's do not have firewire or > USB AFAIK Slightly related, and I do think I have posted this before, that RS/6000s *do* have USB capabilty now. At least the newest pSeries, via the 2737 adapter. This is currently only for USB k/bs and mice though, so cannot be used as wanted above.
