| I'll be getting an IBM J30 and one J40 within the next weeks. Because these machines only have 4GB internal drives I want to replace them with something bigger. But I need to know what drives are inside the hot swap housings? Are they HVD or SE, 8Bit or 16Bit? Benjamin |

When I remember right the machines have Differential SCSI controllers, so that means there somehwere is an differential->SE converter inside the machine to allow the use of SE disks? > You'll probably be limited to 9GB internal drives. That shouldn't be a problem, either since I want to replace the 4GB disks inside the hot swap housing with a bigger SCSI disk. Benjamin |

I don't think IBM will have drives larger than 9GB. BV |

All the beasties I dealt with were differential, but then that was for a large project which required multiple servers feed a robot, and the extra distance was deemed desireable. Can't imagine why one would do differential for just the internal drives. I could swear there were SE cards available in those days.... |
