I think gif+bridge is not compatible with other OS' tap
driver.
Plus, the ethertap is as common as the tun device, and
as should get clear from this posts, it would be trivial
to add to the tun driver (if someone skilled looked at
it, he could probably share nearly all the code with
the tun driver, maybe in the same source file even).
