The "can't find the drives" kernel 2.6.x problem seems to be related in some way to the K6-2 CPU. Not quite sure what it is, and chances are we'll never know as I've just had a word with my "Guy that does computers" and ordered a new box to replace the old AMD 500. Its almost a decade old now, so I suppose the odd upgrade is in order every so often. All things being equal, I suppose it says something for Linux/Slack that the scale of final hardware redundancy is about a decade, rather than the 12/24 months I've seen my Windups-using associates pouring money and time into. -- \===* www.jonestheweb.myby.co.uk *===/ )8 Data-Pimped by your ISP yet? 8( (For clues, search "anti phorm") |

Hardi-har. Having given due respect to your suggestion, ie: ignored it, it turns out the old K6 CPUs just don't cut it with today's kernels. This isn't a kernel problem, just the trickery in the K6s finally becoming fully obsolete as things progress. (Not a bad innings though.) As a result, I stuck my hand in my pocket and dug out a few quid for some new hardware. Said K6 is now running as a network router for the home. (Been wanting to play with this kind of stuff for a while now. Must admit though, I'd not realised just how long I've been burning the labels of that old gear. If this new stuff lasts as long I'll be quite happy. -- *===( http://www.jonestheweb.myby.co.uk/ *===( http://principiadiscordia.com/ *===( http://www.badphorm.co.uk/ |
