| I noticed that the slackware site mentioned that 9.1 is "2.6 Ready", does this mean that all I have to do is download a 2.6 kernel (test7 is the newest to date) and compile it ? Did I have to have chosen a specific GCC (3.2.3 ?) to be able to use a 2.6 kernel ? Cheers, Bards. |

No. File to read for details on checking your system is; /usr/src/linux-2.6.0testx/Documentaion/Changes Most things in slack-9.1 have higher version numbers than is "needed". So like it was stated, slack-9.1 is 2.6 ready. > > Cheers, > > > Bards. -- If the Linux community is a bunch of theives because they try to imitate windows programs, then the Windows community is built on organized crime. Thanks for your help Richard. I'll read the doco later, but I noticed that none of my modules loaded automatically, I checked the rc scripts and it should run a depmod -a. 2.6 seems very responsive and I like the fact the I/O wait figure in 'top' is being used at last. Cheers, Bards. |

With the new version you should omit the `-a', "man depmod". > 2.6 seems very responsive and I like the fact the I/O wait figure in > 'top' is being used at last. Interesting. -- -Menno. |

No you DONT need to upgarde mod-utils at all. (you can use /sbin/generate-modprobe.conf). The file modules.conf is no longer used in 2.6.x. Anyone correct me if am wrong/ Greeting from Argentina -- Marcelo |
