| Last night I recompiled my 2.4 kernel and added agpart into the kernel & the ati rage driver as a module. I ran lsmod and sure enough the agpart and r128 were both listed as running yet when I attemtped to run x the logs showed this: (II) R128(0): Acceleration enabled (==) R128(0): Backing store disabled (==) R128(0): Silken mouse enabled (II) R128(0): Using hardware cursor (scanline 2052) (II) R128(0): Largest offscreen area available: 1280 x 5525 (II) R128(0): Direct rendering disabled (==) RandR enabled Symbol drmAgpBase from module /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/r128_drv.o is unresolved! Symbol drmGetInterruptFromBusID from module /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/r128_drv.o is unresolved! Symbol drmCtlInstHandler from module /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/r128_drv.o is unresolved! Symbol DRIGetDeviceInfo from module /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/r128_drv.o is unresolved! Symbol drmCtlUninstHandler from module /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/r128_drv.o is unresolved! now I assume the R128(0) is a good sign showing that the x server is indeed using the r128 module for the driver. My question is what is the unresolved stuff all about? |

Does adding the following 4 lines to /etc/X11/XF86Config help? # If using the kernel's agpgart, enable DRI for everyone Section "DRI" mode "666" EndSection -- Slackware9.1, 2.4.24, A7V333-XP2100+, Ti4200 RLU #272755 |

I dont know if this aplies to you at all maybe someone else will know better but I had problems with my ATI R128 card when setting up a tv tuner card, I found the GATOS drivers through google, installed them and everything is just super. You can check it out here http://gatos.sf.net The Gatos drivers replace the drivers you mention above. You will need Xfree V4.3 though, the improvement I saw is very good. |
