| I have tried to install Slackware 12 on my old PC (now it is running Windows 2000 Pro) but in vain. Just at the beginning, it hangs infinetely, even if I put "huge.s" for the kernel. How to get it going on? Thanks! jk -- Jilani KHALDI http://jkhaldi.oltrelinux.com |

I can see: Loading /kernels/huge.s/bzImage....... and nothing more. jk -- Jilani KHALDI http://jkhaldi.oltrelinux.com |

Seems only logical that this would be the next step; there are a couple other kernels beside huge.s. Mike |

| How about posting hardware info.... disk controller, video, cpu type, ram. Have you run the checksum on the disk? for fastest test use the cdrom disk 1, and try booting it. I have one machine that will not boot the dvd disk, installs from it fine, but needs to boot from cdrom to see the dvd. Seems to be a bios issue. Robert |

The 12.0 CD wouldn't boot on that system, apparently because of an incompatibility with the newer version of IsoLinux. Instead, I booted the Slackware-11.0 CD, then switched the disk to the Slackware-12.0 disk, so although I had 11's "setup" program running, it still installed the newer distribution. I've also done this in the past with previous versions of Slackware and even older systems ... It took a fair bit of effort to get a reasonably complete installation without running out of disk space, but I got it done, and am intending to get it fully configured in the next short while. I hope you find that helpful ... -- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Sylvain Robitaille syl@alcor.concordia.ca Systems and Network analyst Concordia University Instructional & Information Technology Montreal, Quebec, Canada ---------------------------------------------------------------------- |
