Default dialog in Slackware

Hi all,

I have some questions about dialog program included in Slackware.
* Why is it build as part of pkgtools instead of stand-alone package?
* Why there is only dialog program without libraries that could be linked
in other C programs? (they must be compiled from source)
* Why Pat is using old 0.9b version released on December 2003 rather than
newer that is included e.g. in Debian (1.0, 2005-06-06)?

I know, this questions should be asked to Pat directly but maybe some kind
person here could help me.

A guess. Patrick uses dialog in his pkgtools script so he wants to be
sure that dialog is present when the pkgtools package is installed.

Because he lives in the present not in the future. OK. Another guess,
version 0.9b is the latest independent release and the Debian version
you are referring to is Debian's own brew.

Just semantics.

"Monolog"= one person talking to himself.
"Dialog"=two people talking to themselves.

Hope this clears the confusion.

Have fun.

They are both snapshots of the code that I maintain:

http://invisible-island.net/dialog/

so you haven't actually answered the question.

You should just let him know that a newer version of dialog is available.

He's on the list of email addresses that I notify on each release.

I did a bit of googling but your site didn't show up, all I did find was
a long list of Debian sites.

As i wrote; It was a guess but based on what I saw in google and I
think OP knew that was about the best he could get in this group.

"dialog" is hard to search for (true). Besides that, "ncdialog" and "cdialog"
are possibilities.

Anyway, more than Debian does package one of the snapshots from my site.
Besides Slackware and Debian, I know that Redhat does (though of course
they don't use it in their installs). Also SuSE (20040316), and some
less well-known ones.
