What is this rumor of dropping gnome?

Although I don't use gnome myself (but well some gnome apps); I won't find
this a good idea; giving the fact that compiling gnome oneself is not easy;
and would probably force gnome user to switch ditro.

pat thinks it's too much of a pain to compile gnome: the process cannot be
automated, isn't documented and there are a multitude of dependencies that
change with every release. and since the people at dropline are providing
their own version of gnome for slackware, pat is considering dropping it.

just search the NG for posts on this, there should be one or two links to
comments made by pat on the issue. and IIRC he also mentions something in
the changelog.
