Default Does Slack work with Nvida?

I have tried a few other distros and I found that Fedora worked with
Nvida, but I didnt really like Fedora and decided on slack. Does anyone
know off hand if it works with Nvida (from chipset, to graphics card)

Thanks,
Lance

ad. topic: does, it's not distribution case.. it depends on kernel
*search* archives.

Yes, it does. Put in /etx/X11/xorg.conf:

Sectin "Device"
Identifier "SomeGForce"
Driver "nv"
EndSection

The nVidia drivers are distribution agnostic, although you may have
to have the kernel sources installed. If you want just 2d graphics use
the "nv" driver as per a previous post. If you want 3d acceleration
grab the driver *.run file from nvidia.com, run it as root and install
the drivers (trivial) and use the "nvidia" driver instead.

Works like a charm.

The NVidia driver works out of the box pretty much with the stock
Slackware install, but if you use the optional 2.6.x kernel you
might have to grab a patch or two to build the NVidia driver/or get
it to load. Once done, it works fine.

(Using the NVidia-6629 driver with X11R6.8.2 and kernel-2.6.10 on my
laptop which has the GeForce FX Go 5200 card at 1600x1200
resolution)

Mostly true. Some distros make it more difficult though, by not including
certain key components. When Mepis first came out, I recall that being an
issue.

fwiw, i used the patches listed at
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=42964 to get version
6629 running under 10.1 (kernel 2.6.10), and it works fine.

I used the ones from http://www.minion.de/files/1.0-6629/ but as
long as they work.
