| Hello all, I'm not new to usenet, but I'm a relatively new tin user. I seem to be able to browse, post, and reply prettly well using tin. But the only way I have to find an article is to google for it. This is not at all satisfying since I'd rather not use Google. Browsing, posting, and replying go much faster in tin, and I don't like the idea of having Google make complex something that is simpler, otherwise. I'd settle for searching for articles using Google (it seems to do it well), but Google doesn't seem to give the message ID or number. So... my question(s): ->How can I search for an article without using Google. I'd like to query the news server directly. Can that be done? Is there a convenient way, otherwise? (I'm a Linux Slackware user.) ->OK, if the above doesn't prove reasonable, how can I get Google to tell me the message id or number? -Joe |

Yes, but only to a point. Your usenet (news) access provider determines how many past articles are retained on their server. Could be a couple hours, days, or weeks. It all depends on the service and how they rate a particular group.. Your news client should have a search function for all the articles on your provider's server. If not, try another client. > ->OK, if the above doesn't prove reasonable, how can I get Google to > tell me the message id or number?
