Yes, although Gnome is on the second CD, so if you only downloaded the first iso you'll have to download the gnome packages separately and install with installpkg. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.3 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE/4K+MseVxKm0DPWERAm2+AKC5pAPThRnhl3L9uPmRN8cQo27EHw Cfd6GX GIPZAx7yS63+Y352MsW/Upo= =xVd0 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

| Mario, You may also want to check out dropline Gnome at http://www.dropline.net/gnome/ . It is specifically for Slackware and is beautiful. I think that if you are a Gnome user you will love it. Hope you enjoy Slackware! mario wrote: > I'm planning on installing Slack 9.1 this weekend. Right now i'm reading > the Slackware book. | Fred Emmott wrote: > yep - btw the book is a bit outdated i guess i'll find out when i cross that bridge, i don't want to do an 'Full' installation, all i got to play with is a PII 266 w/128 mb ram and 5 gig hdd, a nic, and dhcp. Mozilla and OOo should suffice, Gnome and iceWM or maybe Fluxbox. Does all this come in the cd #2? i understand swaret is in the second cd, do you get to select it and then they prompt you to insert cd2 to install? or do you have to get it after the installation? i've never used .tgz thanks, mario |

I have an nvidia stb128 with 4mb ram, that uses the nv driver, i also know the h and v frequencies of my monitor and only use the 1024x768 res (17" samsung), will that be enough? mario |

To answer your original post and what is in this thread. a) Slackware IS Linux and as such YOU can do ANYTHING you want and KNOW how to do. b) Don't imagine even that the initial install will serve you for long, with practice you will learn things and ideas that will make you reinstall few times, each time better serving your needs. c) The book is very good but NOT as a pre to hands on experience, install, see what is not to your taste, then read the relevant part in book and repair. Have fun Stanislaw Slack user from Ulladulla. |

| Mario, You know, I have never done it, KDE man myself, but I think that would be fine. Ignore stock GNOME and then install dropline. It has an installer that, from what I have been told, works well. Anyone else have any advice on this, as stated before, I am not a GNOME user.
