| ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Thu, 5 Feb 2004 13:16:02 +0000 (GMT) From: Darren Austin <darren (at) slackware (dot) org (dot) uk> To: mirrors@slackware.com Subject: UK Slackware mirror. Hi, I just wanted to inform you of a new Slackware mirror site in the UK, and ask that it be added to the mirrors section of your website. Access is provided by: * FTP: ftp.slackware.org.uk/ * RSYNC: rsync.slackware.org.uk::slackware/ * HTTP: Unavailable at present, but coming soon We currently mirror slackware-9.0, 9.1 and current in full and sync on a daily basis against ftp.slackware.com. Once we have expanded the disk space a little more, a fuller tree will be mirrored. We also provide an "unofficial-isos" directory where we build a Slackware-current Install and Extra's ISO whenever there is an update to the current tree. To our knowledge, there are no mirror sites which provide this extra, and we feel it may be worth nothing on the website (if you guys think so too Thanks for your time Darren Austin. |

Sounds good. You may want to ask for your mirror to be added to this page also: <http://www.abnormalpenguin.com/slackware-mirrors.php> > * FTP: ftp.slackware.org.uk/ Don't mean to worry you, but are Slackware Inc. ok with you using their name? AIUI, slackware-live was renamed because of such issues. > * RSYNC: rsync.slackware.org.uk::slackware/ Hurray. BTW, what's the server's bandwidth? -- Mark Hill <usenet@mark.ukfsn.org> (Yahoo address not read) GPG KeyID: 4A3B58AC |

Um, I have no idea really. I registered the domain for non-commercial purposes and to provide Slackware services.. so I can't see it being much of a problem TBH. On a completely biased note though, Nominet operate on a first-come-first-served basis, so unless Slackware is a registered trademark within the UK, they'd have no claim on the domain. But that said, I am a supporter of Slackware and have no intention of using the domain in any "dodgy" way On a simelar note, I am also quite happy to set up sub-domains for slackware based projects and (in the future) provide hosting/development facilities. Drop me a personal email if you're interested. > > * RSYNC: rsync.slackware.org.uk::slackware/ > Hurray. Was that a good or bad "Hurray"? Couldn't quite make it out > BTW, what's the server's bandwidth? At the moment it's only 2MB/sec, but will shortly be moved to a load balanced 2x 10Mb/sec link, giving a 20Mb/sec link Obviously, with only 2Mb at the moment, I'd prefer it to be used by people within the UK only - once the bandwidth is upgraded, i'm not fussed who hits it D. -- Darren Austin. ---------------------------------------------------------------- To reply: Replace "devnull" with "news" in the From: address. ---------------------------------------------------------------- |

Nice idea. I'm not right now. However, it might be worth mentioning this and your mirror announcement in the lug.org.uk slackware list as most of the list is made up of UK slackers. (It's not the most busiest list in the world though). >> > * RSYNC: rsync.slackware.org.uk::slackware/ >> Hurray. > > Was that a good or bad "Hurray"? Couldn't quite make it out That should have been "Hurray :-)" currently use the rsync at ftp.heanet.ie). Don't you mean, "Still it is nice to have an out of date 2nd choise" ? It might be worth you checking your facts before posting such a snotty reply in future. I'd have thought you'd have learnt that from reading this group for any small length of time. The unofficial slackware-current ISO's I build are updated *whenever* there is a sync'd change to the slackware current tree - not once a week, not even over a month ago, but after every change. -- Darren Austin. ---------------------------------------------------------------- To reply: Replace "devnull" with "news" in the From: address. ---------------------------------------------------------------- |
