| Is "gnu" really pronounced "guh-noo"? Doesn't anyone else find this like really really gay? I want to get into Linux, but it's just so nerdy. Thanks in advance. ps. I am *not* a troll -- I just spent $66 on Slack 12. But... I *am* a Gnome. I prefer it to KDE! Even with its stupid, blurry-ass fonts. Still all the graphical window managers I've seen look really dumb, and I prefer the Win98 / XP Classic look so much more, because it seems serious and business-like. |

Do you think that the name of the gnu software is homosexual? Ask Dan C. He is the local expert in these matters. >I want to get into Linux, but it's just so nerdy. Thanks in advance. The only people who say that are those who can't figure it out. If you are worried about being called "nerdy", you should get a Mac. Seriously. >ps. Guh-nome isn't gay, but it _is_ junk. cordially, as always, rm |

I wasn't fucking trolling. I was asking a legitimate sociological question regarding the geekiness of these computer words like gnu and all that shit. I wanted to know if you computer nerds actually thought this word sounded good and normal and not stupid to say outloud in front of respectable people without expecting a certain degree of awkwardness due to the fact that the word sounds so goddam geeky. I wanted to learn, in short, whether the word, and other geeky computer jargon like it, is INTENDED to sound geeky and uncomfortable in normal conversation. I will leave, though, and get my help ELSEWHERE, but thank you Chris Sorenson, for at least being kind enough to point me in the direction of that Windows-like interface, which is interesting. But I think I will try Ion or wmii instead. Assholes! |

Boy, you showed us (which is really me, since you didn't dislike the only other response I've seen so far, so if your claims about not being a troll are true, you'll killfile me rather than leave the newsgroup). --keith -- kkeller-usenet@wombat.san-francisco.ca.us (try just my userid to email me) AOLSFAQ=http://www.therockgarden.ca/aolsfaq.txt see X- headers for PGP signature information |

It looks like this close-up: http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/8...ctypefozt6.png It doesn't look as bad when you enlarge it with CTRL++ in Firefox, but then it's too big to read. |

You can loo at a screenshot of my configuration here (the screenshot is on KDE with another distribution but I have tested it with gnome and Slackware as well). If you are interested I could post a small howto (but apparently very few people are interested). Olive |
