| Hello from the Eighth Doctor Is anyone using their system running the current release of Slackware to manage their Ham radio activities? I am especially interested in soundmodem applications. Specifically the Soundblaster product. ---- Gregg drwho8 atsign att dot net |

Specifically the Soundblaster product. Well, the Extra portion of 10.1 has a "ham" directory. All of the programs there have a long history of working with a variety of configurations and hardware. Soundmodem in particular worked with older soundblasters, I have no idea if it works with newer soundblaster cards. I might also suggest you try http://radio.linux.org.au/ for different amateur software. |

That is fairly old hat stuff. I had started a program to control my 840 with an emulated radio face on the screen (doing other things at the moment) so that stuff is doable. I built a soundblaster i/f stuff for collecting data. Do you need something specific? There are a lot of logbook control programs on the web but they don't need SB. Ron |

Although I don't use gnome on my computer, I copied the gnome libraries from my Slackware 10.0 distribution disk which the program needed and all is fine. The above page covers almost all aspects (although not all programs) of ham programs in use so might help. Incidentally, I am using this on a Panasonic Toughbook CF-45 computer which contains a Yamah sound chip using Alsa, Slackware 10.0 with fmwm2. ....Edwin, KD5ZLB -- __________________________________________________ _____ "Once you have flown, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, there you long to return."-- da Vinci ... www.shreve.net/~elj |
