| I downloaded the slackware, in fact an older version, it's the package, not the iso and made the boot floppy and root floppy, I have a sanyo cdrom and made the sanyo.i floppy, it can't see the cdrom, even though the cdrom light goes..... Is it because of the label on the cd? or how do I burn the cd to make it happen..... another thing is the system is capable of booting from cd, but fails on my burn cd's, i have a copy of redhat, and it works fine, but it won't start the xwindows.... getting frustrated........ |

The answer that you are looking for is almost certainly out there on the web but we will do our best, IF you make the effort to be polite and rephrase the question... how old is your cdrom and motherboard/bios? | Please do not top-post, and get in the habit of trimming excess quotes. You will find this group a rather hostile crowd otherwise. In article <V1fib.91372$PD3.4866322@nnrp1.uunet.ca>, Jim wrote: > doh, i'm not stupid, don't insult me, i've been working on this for weeks > and looking things up, now I am trying to contact someone that may know ISTM the problem, Jim, is that you lack so much of what we'd consider basic understanding, that it's difficult for us to know where to start with you. > something about this.... don't be ignorant, i'm not dumb. Whatever you want to call it, posting a subject "help" is plain wrong. Read that smart-questions page. You didn't even bother to tell us what "older version" you got. You deserve all the flames you're going to get. End of discussion. > i'm frustrated, because everything I try doing, isn't working, and have run > this os before, now it won't cooperate.... When was that, Jim? And what have you been doing since then? ><news@[127.0.0.1]> wrote in message > news:24tiovom7u3160q8c5bma6ttv80616k8h5@4ax.com... >> As for what bootdisk to choose, everything is here, >> >> http://www.slackware.com/install/ >> >> 2. Even after it being pointed out? >> http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html [leaving the link here because YOU NEED IT] I will throw in an observation from your OP. You said you have a Sanyo CD-ROM drive, and that the system can boot a CD. Since the ElTorito standard for bootable CD's hit the market, so did the ATAPI standard for CD-ROM drives. For a long time Sanyo-branded CD-ROM drives have adhered to the ATAPI standard. IOW, you probably need the regular bare.i kernel. -- /dev/rob0 - preferred_email=i$((28*28+28))@softhome.net or put "not-spam" or "/dev/rob0" in Subject header to reply |

OK Jim, but you really did make it impossible for us (well not me, I AM dumb, but there are some clever folk here for sure ;-) to help you by not giving any detailed information. You really need to look at this link:- http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html and then ask again with much more info.
