Default Help!

Hi folks, new to Linux, can not seem to get my modem going, every time I
query the modem, it say's 'modem busy'
Help and patience would be appreciated!
My modem is: HSP56 MR.

I used to get this error with winmodems. is yours one?

Hi Despina,

It would help if you could post the output of "/sbin/lspci".

There's a batch of info on the web about Linux and modems. If you are
trying to set up an internal modem, carried over from Windows, you
probably are faced with a "controllerless" or software operated modem
rather than a "controller" or hardware operated modem. I found that for
my system, using Slack 9 with (several) hfc/hfs (controllerless) modems
was nearly impossible. I finally plugged an external USR Sportster V90
into the parallel port and let KPPP take over. No problems, no hassle,
smooth as silk. Setup time was about 60 seconds.

But all the info i have found say it does work with linux.
Have you had your google today.???
