Default KDE 3.4 on Slack 10.1

Can I use the KDE 3.4 packages that I are found in Current, and install them
on my Slackware 10.1 installation? Or are they really only supposed to work
properly in a Slackware Current installation?

I know I can go over to Linux Packages and get KDE 3.4 for Slackware 10.1,
but I trust the packages found on official Slackware sites more.

How about KDE packages from KDE?

Just installed 3.4 from current on Slack-10.1.
No problems at install.
Everything seems OK.

Do you notice any extra ordinary disk activity? I upgraded my slack
'current' to kde 3.4 and now I notice that the hard drive activity light
'flicks' at a constant rate of 2 - 3 times a second. Never noticed this
with prior version of kde. Also, only have that disk activity with kde up
and running. Just wondering. Haven't gotten serious about trying to find
out where it's coming from yet.

Sounds like KDE3.4 maybe a memory hog and disk activity could be swapping
data in and out of memory.

Just a guess

It's the "KDED Media Manager".

Control Center -> KDE Components -> Service Manager -> "Startup Services"

Turn off KDED Media Manager and the disk activity stops.

Except that you can configure KDE to take as little memory as you can afford
to give. I'm really sorry for people who can't figure out how to do this.
Upgraded to KDE 3.4 since alpha. No extra disk reads happening here.
