widget, I'm taking a guess that this was directed to me.
The kernel howto link I suggested works, I know because I wrote it,
and I'm a slackware user. It's not a "REDHAT" site. I make rpms for my
system, which is slackware. I had to compile my own version of rpm
for one silly patch that allows doing a "rpm -ba --short-circuit
xxx.spec", along with other personal preferences. I always compile,
build and install my own rpms. I've made hundreds of them, if not
more.
I never install any precompiled rpms. In fact, for important system
programs,
I'll often get the xxx.Slackbuild for Volkerding, and his patches, to
make my
own src rpms and rpms. I have nothing against slackwares packaging
system.
One day I was bored and created my own src rpm for workbone. lol. Can
you tell
I have too much free time?
It's just I like using rpms cause some things are more efficient. They
both do
the same thing. My first linux experience was with slackware about 5-6
years ago, then tried redhat, then mandrake, then came back to
slackware. I got sick and tired of hearing my computer's hdd
constantly making sounds. This was most likely just some cron stuff,
but I felt like I was being scripted to death from redhat/mandrake.
That's why slackware just kicks total ass, IMHO. If your message
wasn't directed to me, then my bad.

forgot to mention, if you look at David's response, my howto is
exactly the same, except without all the comments. I was just trying
to help, that's why
I wrote to begin with.

If you want to top post, go right ahead and top post. Don't let
the anals get in your way.

How about a rule conserving bandwidth by getting rid of pgp trash
trolling encryption?

Oh goodie. I've been waiting over a week for that. :-)

When you write a letter to somebody, do you sign it? If you write a
letter to a group of people... like if you are a supervisor and need to
get a message accross, so you post a letter on a bulletin board... do
you sign it?

Why would you not sign something here, then? We've had trolls come in
in the past who pretended to be a regular poster. PGP/GPG signatures
help thwart such fools.

But... I realize I typed that out for no real reason; you are using 'pgp
trash troll delete' or whatever it is you type just as a way to offend
(lol) 'us regular trolls'. :-)

We have never seen an ng where posters are repeatedly told not to
top post. People catch on all by themselves without having to be
hammered by pimply faced unix-wannabes pgp trash trolls with
nothing better to do than look for kindling.

There is no _reason_ to tell anybody not to top-post.

Yes, we sign it. But we don't use pgp encryption for no fucking
reason at all!

And we most certainly wouldn't use encryption to make sure that a
letter written by a pseudonym actually was written by somebody
using that pseudonym.

That is preposterous.

You are not a supervisor and whatever it is you have to say, there
is no reason to authenticate it with pgp encryption. You use pgp
encryption because you are an anal. Everybody knows this.

pgp is the badge of the pgp trash trolls. W/O exception, the pgp
trash trolls have nothing substantial to offer. pgp trash trolls
should all be killfiled.

I think we need a new mantra:

"Please don't feed the troll-feeders."

I should have clarified that www.freewebs.com/specfiles is
not my site, I just contributed the kernel tip. I think the
site owner also uses slackware, at least was a couple of
years ago.

If I'm top posting I don't mean to, I just reply to the lowest
message. Must be a google thing.
