| I'm currently using 2.4.22, as installed from the Slackware 9.1 disks. I know I'm behind the times, and so am ready to roll a 2.4.25 kernel from scratch (avoiding 2.6 for now). My question is, what additional patches to the kernel do you folks think might be useful? The low-latency patch? Stuff from Openwall? I don't have a real good feel for what patches Pat applied to the shipped versions of the kernel, if any. As a user, I run a Dell Inspiron 5100 a desktop environment in XFCE, with occasional heavy MATLAB or SeismicUnix processing runs. Nothing terribly strenuous. Are there any good kernel patches you would all suggest I apply before I get started? Thanks! -- afox at drizzle dot com || http://www.drizzle.com/~afox Highway Patrolman: "Sir, do you know how fast you were going?" Heisenberg: "No, but I know EXACTLY where I was!" |

IMO, unless you have very good reasons (you have really obscure hardware, you wanna hack these "unofficial" things, etc), you should stick to the mainline kernel. -- |---<Steve Youngs>---------------<GnuPG KeyID: A94B3003>---| | Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. | | The proof of the pudding, is under the crust. | |------------------------------<sryoungs@bigpond.net.au>---| |

I have used the openwall patch for a long time now on several different kernel releases and have had no problems with it. -- Confucius: He who play in root, eventually kill tree.
