Default Kmail problem

As linux newbie ( Slackware 9.1 ).... although I can connect to the
Internet
from Konquerer via my external modem Kmail seems to expect mail to
come
via the LAN, I get a message " could not connect to host local
host".... I have a network card as Windows on this PC is connected
as peer -to-peer network with my other Windows PC. Is there a way I
can dial
up to my ISP and get mail that way.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice

I'd check the settings you've got in Kmail. There'll be something in
there telling it that your POP3 server is 'localhost'.

I'm entirely sure what you mean by this. Do you mean?:

a) you want your Windows PC to dial up to the Internet and have your
Slackware box connect to the Internet through that (using NAT/ICS)

b) you want your Slackware box to dial up to the Internet and you want
to collect your mail on the Windows box, which should connect through
the Slackware box (using NAT)

Success !!..... your suggestion that all was not as it
should be in the configuration was correct. When I substituted
my POP3 server for "localhost" and also changed ( by trial and error)
the authentication from " clear text " to PLAIN it all worked.
Again, many thanks.... on to the next problem but that's
for another posting.
