Default New to Slackware-audio suddenly gone

Hi! new to Slackware I am probably a permanent newbie in Linux .
I have been using Mandriva for a few years and will stay my
distribution of choise but I wanted to learn a bit more of Linux and a
friend gave me Slackware 12 which I install ( kernel huge.s).
Everything was working... Audio was working fine since after
installation, could watch movie and listen to audio cd's ( only with
Amarok).
This afternoon I was fooling around with it and now suddenly the audio
is not working anymore...
What was I doing?
I remember trying to figure out why only Amarok but not KsCD or
noautn could play audio cd's
I remember adding my user name to the group /cdrom/ and /audio/

Now I tryed again with select Alsa , set the volume with alsamixer
and use alsactl store
but no sound , I do not know where to look

Any help appreciated,
santo

Sorry to post from Google but I keep getting the same message when
using Pan:

441 Banlist!
go back...

well I tryed to rewind what I did...I deleted the group audio and
cdrom from user santo

muted and zeroed all channels in alsamixer and stored the value with
alsactl store

closed and quitted all sound programs and then
run alsaconf
re-run alsamixer ( especially the channels VIA DXS )

now sound is nicely up again
