| Hi! I'm rather new at this and I use Slackware 8.1. I would like to know if it's possible to set up a newsserver on my comp. it's connected via DSL and is always on. I have a network with some win'dos' comp's connecte via a provet network to the server. I only want to download a few intresting groups not everything. Could someone help me with this?? Mikey |

In a word, "leafnode". Leafnode is a two-part package: an NNTP server for your lan, and an NNTP client to talk to outside news servers. The NNTP server provides your lan clients with their news, and it uses the NNTP client to retrieve and send news to your ISP's news server. Leafnode only downloads the newsgroups that are actively being read on your lan, and has aging controls to expire both news articles and groups as interests change. FWIW, I've been running leafnode for several years; it's saved my marriage and my telephone.
