Default News server

Hi!
I'm rather new at this and I use Slackware 8.1. I would like to know if
it's possible to set up a newsserver on my comp. it's connected via DSL
and is always on. I have a network with some win'dos' comp's connecte via
a provet network to the server. I only want to download a few intresting
groups not everything.
Could someone help me with this??

Mikey

Take a look at Leafnode. Its easy to setup and i think it matches your
need for a small newsserver.

In a word, "leafnode".

Leafnode is a two-part package: an NNTP server for your lan, and an NNTP client
to talk to outside news servers. The NNTP server provides your lan clients with
their news, and it uses the NNTP client to retrieve and send news to your ISP's
news server.

Leafnode only downloads the newsgroups that are actively being read on your lan,
and has aging controls to expire both news articles and groups as interests
change.

FWIW, I've been running leafnode for several years; it's saved my marriage and
my telephone.

or, in Slackware package: http://www.linuxpackages.net/details.php?name=Leafnode
