Default NTFS Resize.

Has anyone here used ntfsresize? I have an NTFS system that I want to dual
boot with Slacky.

Here is a link to a site with a CD:
http://mlf.linux.rulez.org/mlf/ezaz/....html#reliable

Also, if you can offer better alternatives (and no... completely formatting
the hard drive is not an option) I would love to hear them. Thanks in
advance,

Sam

A couple of months ago I used ntfsresize to squeeze a 20GB NTFS
partition, with Win 2000 installed, down to 11 GB. I then installed
Slackware to the newly freed space.

I carefully followed the instructions on

http://mlf.linux.rulez.org/mlf/ezaz/ntfsresize.html

under point 9., to resize the partition from the command line. I used
the Slackware 9.0 live CD to run the ntfsresize program from a floppy
disk. It worked perfectly.

If the content of your ntfs partition is so important to you then best
way out would be to buy an extra (second hand) harddrive. Then you could
install Linux at /dev/hdb and leave your ntfs partition at /dev/hda
totally untouched.

I used it without serious problems on various Windows (2000/XP)
systems to make space for Linux and dual-boot for a customer of mine.
Read the docs!

Cheers, Eric

I ended up going with BootItNG which is $30 shareware with a 30 day trial.

At the time I resized, there were several options:

1. BootItNG
2. ASP disc 1
3. ntfsresize()
4. partition magic
5. acronis ?? (similar to asp deal)

I think now Mandy disc 1 can resize also.

Tons of options.

Haven't used it, sorry...

I've used Ghost for something like this, and it works perfectly...But
you'd need either an additional hard drive or network drive to temporarily
store an image of the existing hard drive...
Basically, what I've done is use ghost to dump an image of the hard drive
to storage somewhere. Then re-ghost from that image to the original hard
drive, but resize the partition that is being ghosted to. By default
ghost will want to create a partition of the same size the image was
created from, but allows you to easily choose a different size, leaving
the rest of the disk free ( or expanding the size of the partition if you
happen to be going to a bigger drive ).

My guess is that there are other tools that will do this as well, but will
also require somewhere for you to store the image temporarily.
