| I have been trying to find help on uploading attachments to binary news groups, such as alt.binaries.movies and have found little. Most of the people I have talked to in the chat rooms are windows users, which is no help at all. If someone could help me with the Linux end of this I would be extremely grateful. I use pan but it has no attachment feature when posting messages, which I suppose is how it should be. So I'm guessing there is a script or something somewhere that does this. I don't know. (: I have a number of movies that I have ripped and would like to help out in the news groups. Any help appreciated. Thanks |

I think newspost will do what you want. It's in 9.1's n/ disk series. -- Mark Hill <usenet@mark.ukfsn.org> (Yahoo address not read) GPG KeyID: 4A3B58AC |

Sure thing. > I use pan but it has no attachment feature when posting > messages, Yup. There's been talks, in the works, that posting binaries is an "upcoming" feature, but that's been the same for the last few releases. =) > which I suppose is how it should be. So I'm > guessing there is a script or something somewhere that > does this. I don't know. (: There is, it's called newspost.[1] It's now part of the 9.1 release. Quite some time back I wrote a "HOWTO" for it (albeit an older version.) Posting to Usenet with 'newspost' HOW-TO <URL:http://www.slack.net/~hermit/HOWTO/newspost_howto.html> I explain everything well enough so that even tho some of the switches have changed or new ones have been added, it's still applicable. (I wrote it for a *doze user, so there's alot of hand-holding.) > I have a number of movies that I have ripped and would > like to help out in the news groups. Now, I'm not suggesting that you do anything illegal: That would be wrong. However, if you /do/ plan on posting anything that's still under copyright, be sure you know how to cover your ass *before* you start postin'. Setup the newsgroup account and then compose a message, as you would a normal email message. Use alt.binaries.test or another appropriate group for testing. -- Douglas Mayne |
