Hey y'all,

Writing yet another paper, and I need your help again. This is for
people who know another language besides English.

Please state the following technological words in your foreign
language. Please romanize the spelling of them so I can notice
patterns between different languages, i.e. don't write the Russian
words using the Cyrillic alphabet, for example, use a romanized
spelling when possible. If you are unsure of the meaning of a
particular word, use the technological one. For example, when thinking
of the word 'mouse' I mean a computer mouse and not the furry kind.

The words are:

1) Internet
2) server
3) program
4) technology
5) monitor
6) keyboard
7) mouse
8) compact disc (CD)
9) digital video/versatile disc (DVD)
10) hard drive

I need these results as soon as possible, in case you were wondering.
I could look all these words up on Babelfish, but I believe that a
group effort will provide a much richer variety of languages.

Why then, if you need everybody's help, would you have insulted

If nobody else will do so, I could have a shot at polish, but I'd
prefer a native to do so, since I'm not familiar with the spelling, and
might not know the correct term(the rest of familiy isn't geek, so it
isn't usually a topic when we speak to eachother).

If no-one's done this in French & German by the time I get home, I'll
see what I can find out (from my dictionaries, sister (who speaks
semi-fluent German & some French) & parents (who speak bits of French &
German)).

I don't know exactly what this project is about, but it might also be
worth comparing pronunciation. For example, I think the Dutch 'muis'
and German 'maus' would be pronounced in a similar way to how we would
pronounce 'mouse' (I'm sure Joost or Bartosz will correct me, or add to
that, if I'm wrong).

you betcha! ;-)

german Maus is close to english mouse, but dutch 'muis' is a different
sound. in fact, it's a diphthong that does not occur in any other language
that i know of. which also means i can't really describe it...

we also use the word 'beeldscherm'. i couldn't say which of the two is more
common, though. perhaps bartosz has an idea of that.
