| I don't start many threads.... maybe one every two or three months. But here I go (again). Can you imagine what the reaction might be if P.V. adopted Smart: http://www.linux.com/article.pl?sid=06/07/07/1612259 What if Slackware all of a sudden jumped right into the the 21st century... from where it is currently... in 1997. Add Smart to a new KDE (which I expect in 11.0) and a new (Anaconda) installer, and maybe a YaST-like control panel... and gee whiz... we might get a distro that is MODERN. What a concept. anc (playing his fiddle) |

Why do you use Slackware if you're dreaming of RedHat or Suse ? Go and get a new Suse linux distro and live your life, stop dreaming it ! -- @+ Doug [Linux user #307925] - Slackware RuleZ ;-) [Pourquoi t'es qui, qu'est ce que tu fais par où ?] -- Contact : Remove no-spam (2X) -- |

Though, it relies on Python, and may not be ideal as a default package manager for that reason (at least, I wouldn't install unnecessary cruft on a Slack server). > What if Slackware all of a sudden jumped right into the the 21st > century... from where it is currently... in 1997. UNIX is from the 60'ies and 70'ies, and most UNIX concepts work very well in 2006. Older technology matured technology isn't bad, often it is even better. And there will always be a group of people who want to be able to read and hack the source of the utilities that they use. You won't be able to do that with 200 MB gorillas. Slackware Linux is working in a niche, and it is doing well there. > Add Smart to a new KDE (which I expect in 11.0) and a new (Anaconda) > installer, and maybe a YaST-like control panel... and gee whiz... we might > get a distro that is MODERN. And loose the ability to make a custom installer by modifying a few shell scripts in the initrd image. No thanks! Slackware is not Red Hat or SUSE, and it doesn't need to be. -- Daniel |

ANC, you are the living proof that this old Daoist proverb is 100% true: Those who speak, don't know. Those who know, don't speak. And with this, I'll bid you adieu, and I'll let you meditate on the wisdom expressed in the two lines above. -- U. |

He doesn't use Slackware. He's just the resident troll around here, and posts crap like this to get a rise out of people. He has a known history of being unable to use Slackware, and wonders how some are able to do it. Just ignore him, as the rest of us do. -- "Kanotix" - A German word meaning "Slackware is too hard for me". |

That's certainly true, and it works, though not as much as he'd wish :-) > He has a known history > of being unable to use Slackware, and wonders how some are able to do it. This is not exact, I believe it's more like he got bored of his Subaru Forester automatic and changed it for a Testarossa to get hype but now he's missing the climatizer and the TomTom and, most, now he engaged first gear while thinking it was "parking gear" he's a bit annoyed with keeping on the road ;-) > Just ignore him, as the rest of us do. ANC most certainly does understand both the strengths and weaknesses of slackware, and because he is not afraid to point out the weaknesses, he is hated by the zealots in this ng. Think of it this way. While ANC is playing some Bach on his system, troll Dan C. is busy calling him a faggot and demanding that he turn the Bach off and put Herman and the Hermits on instead. We shit hard on Dan C. We shit in his face and we grind that shit into all the orifices in his head, with our boots. cordially, as always, rm |

I gonna make a startling suggestion - If you want clickity click package management why not use a distro that has that "feature". OIC - Too stupid to put that together. Maybe he should stick to microwave ovens and toasters. |
