Default partition problem ?

Due to older programs i have to use, i rebuild my entire disk
partition. I have Win98, Win 2000, in dual boot, and want to install
Slack 11.0. So, i rebuild the partition type, but when i try to install
Slack, i receive almost imediatly error messages. I build the root
partition in a logical drive; do i need to put it as a primary
partition ?

Below is a print of my partition type :

No... you should be able to install and boot slackware on
primary or logical partition.

The error message you received might tell you what failed.
Understanding the error message would be the best place to
start, if you want to solve the problem.

the error is :

grep: /var/log/mount/slackware/a/tagfile: input/output error

after a few packages the message is :

"THERE WAS A FATAL ERROR ATTEMPTING TO INSTALL /var/log/mount/
slackware/a/loadlin-1.6c-i386-1.tgz. THE PACKAGE MAY BE CORRUPTED, THE
INSTALLATION MEDIA MAY BE BAD, OR SOMETHING ELSE HAS CAUSED....etc"

don't assume partition error.

note, (1) input/output error on '.../a/tagfile' is a source media error.
(2) error on loadlin is IIRC issued by installpkg, while uncrompressing
the package file.

i suspect, 'dubious source media, eg., an iso download burnt to cd.
or perhaps a dubious cd drive, same result.

run an md5suma on your source media and see what you get.
mine says:

a7cfcb4be158beca63af21b3b4dbc69c slackware-11.0-install-d1.iso
