Games has vanished after 6 weeks?

Might be my client being funny or.... no idea really.

Its most likely because your newsserver has a 6 weeks expire in the
alt.* groups. My ISP's server has a 3 months expire in these groups.

Perhaps your ISP only keeps them for that long. Did you search
google groups?

Not "crap" (well, they might be, but a 6-week expiry time on netnews
articles is no indication that they are). Netnews articles are expected
to expire after some time. Your ISP simply has a different expiry policy
than other sites. The news server I manage will expire articles in
alt.* after two weeks, if I recall correctly, except for locally posted
articles, which are kept longer.
