| I'm trying to do a new install with Slack 9.0. Made boot disk, but I have a Promise Ultra100 controller card that my Seagate 120Gig drive runs off of. Since it doesn't see this drive and controller, what parms should I use at the boot prompt? Thanks, jt |

| Is that the '265? I had trouble with that chip on a Gigabyte GA-7ZXR ... It worked ok with Linux as long as I switched it to ATA100 mode (as opposed to RAID) I used it with Slack8.1 .. I believe the RAID function is supposed to work now, but it still doesn't see it upon booting to my knowledge ... You would have to either use a seperate boot drive on another controller until you re-compile, or just use the ATA100 mode, as I mentioned earlier. I had the same trouble with a '275 on my friend's MB .. My ultimate solution was to upgrade to a 3Ware Escalade 7500-4LP 64-bit RAID controller. I also added a couple more drives for a total of 4 WD1200JB RAID-5 (2 drives interlaced, 1 XOR drive and 1 hot-spare) 240GB array with plenty of redundancy. jt wrote: > I'm trying to do a new install with Slack 9.0. | I do have it in the ATA 100 mode. Maybe it just doesn't support this Promise card. jt "Haedn Thorn" <lordhaedn1@nospam.cox.net> wrote in message news:2tLcb.11887$KJ4.28@news1.central.cox.net... > Is that the '265? | Here's the thing, Redhat 9.0 see's it and Mandrake see's it. Why not Slack? jt "Haedn Thorn" <lordhaedn1@nospam.cox.net> wrote in message news:2tLcb.11887$KJ4.28@news1.central.cox.net... > Is that the '265? Why not Slack? a) if you have to use a broken newsclient, at least use it properly, and don't top-post. thank you. b) what driver/module are these other distributions using ? is it a stock kernel supplied one or not ? if not, that's why. if it is, modprobe it. I have a Promise Ultra133 controller card on my Duron box, and Slack 9.0 recognized it no problem. However, I wasn't sure what was going to happen before I installed it, so I bounced over to the Promise website. I think they have linux drivers for some of their older cards. And I think that BIOS upgrade suggestion has some merit also. --The Revenant |
