Surely there must be *some* identification somewhere on the laptop... can you take a picture of it and post it on the web? Although, that probably wouldn't be needed - it's probably somewhere... Is there an FCC ID you can look up anywhere on the laptop? -- Rob | If not safe, Email and Jabber: | one can never be free. athlonrob at axpr dot net | -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.2 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE/nuiAhm6KEoOOAe0RAsYJAJ98M4NPs05p7ZzkxzBttFn16yWoLg Cg28/j v/D8YP+FprR4+ARkOr4dHcc= =bGdF -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

There was one called 'sandra', but I can't remember whether it was for dos or windows. Jack -- Vlad, Heisenberg & Thomas: The originators of FUD. |

Another trick for finding out about the innards of a strange box is to use one of the "live system" available - boot from cd and no harm done to your hard-drives - but they autodetect most hardware and tell you what they are doing! You have to be pretty quick to catch some of that info as it flies by though ;-) hth Glyn -- RTFM http://www.tldp.org/index.html GAFC http://slackbook.yoshiwara.org.uk/ STFW http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=e...inux.slackware GAFL http://www.xemacs.org http://www.vim.org |

Sandra is for Windows. But personally I prefer a free product called AIDA32 to analyse everything about a Windows machine. AIDA32 can output the results as a HTML document (complete with hyperlinks to manufacturer's home pages). http://www.aida32.hu/aida32.php. There's even a AIDA16 version for DOS. - -- George Georgakis - geeg AT tripleg net au - http://www.tripleg.net.au/ SlackBuild Central - http://slackpack.tripleg.net.au/ -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: PGPfreeware 6.5.8 for non-commercial use <http://www.pgp.com> iQA/AwUBP58lwElp3nJf7PixEQLFIgCg2bJZ8boedm4d1q1gMazeSo AnE2EAmwUZ BgHd0tr8wzFGKbPRHV7MhMck =DVE0 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |
