I have been having the same problem, It's not KDE because Gnome and the
other WM have the same problem. I tried ALSA with no luck. For a whim I
tried the trial version of the Comercial OSS drivers and it worked fine.

I tried installing Slack four times with no lukc, the only thing that work
was the Comercial OSS drivers.

What made you think that reinstalling would make the problem go away?
This isn't windows, if you didn't get that after the first install, you
surely must have noticed after the second, right?
