| Did you put "append="hdc=ide-scsi" in your /etc/lilo.conf file ? ==> Yes, I did it Did you then rerun lilo so that the change would take effect? ==> Yes, I did it and I did a "dd if=/dev/hda5 of=boot.lnx bs=512 count= 1" for boot from WinXP. The file boot.lnx was put in the C: drive root directory with a boot.ini modified. Did you link /dev/sr0 to /dev/cdrom via "ln -s /dev/sr0 /dev/cdrom"? ==> Yes, I did it. I known that I did. I use the Slack from the 3.1. I am not an expert, and not a beginner. I don't know all the features of linux. But I know that "append="hdc=ide-scsi" leads to a new device during boot in an normal case. Not for the Slack 9.0 without the kernel-source. About the ethernet card, instead of the Slack 8.1, the driver is in the kernel for the Slack 9.0. I did not have to modify the rc.modules. At th e first after installatin, the card was recognized. After, I put an IP address, a mask and a gateway with the netconfig comm and (the same parameters under Slack 8.1). I rebooted and I could see th at the IP address was not listed. I tried several "netconfig" with the same parameters and reboots with no success. After installation of kernel source, I did only a reboot and then I could see the IP addre ss. I did nothing else ! If you can't explain that, nevermind. It works well like this but I wanted to understand this behaviour. So why didn't you mention /any/ of that before. You see by explaining *exactly* what you have done instead of just "I installed kernel source and rebooted" you have us going "but that won't fix anything". By not telling the whole story you just piss people off. You can't get help from pissed people. It is a bit like poking a badger with a spoon. This is one of the things you should have learned in: <url:http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html> And you are still top posting: >><url:http://asciipr0n.com/fp/linux/top-posting.txt> '---...____ Faux_Pseudo ________________...---~~~ -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.1 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE/IEkrkjt2bc9NoGsRAq+0AJ9vPw/7nRZJkJzB8dD1u3JUZ+jgSgCfYSyE Nvl81y8IpXkLTCVqeGQehuc= =tOPU -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- ICQ=66618055 : http://asciipr0n.com/fp UPDATED=05/06 YIM=faux_pseudo : Rev: /bill_hicks/flying-saucer-tour/07_-_the_news.mp3 My purity you : Now: _-_rare_obscurities_-_02_-_garden_of_delight.mp3 stole : Fwd: 2/bill_hicks/unknown1/bill_hicks_-_cap03.mp3 |
