Wait a minute, you lost me here. If you haven't touched a Red Hat derivative in six years, how is it you still struggle with its oddities? Regarding the OP's question, my perception (which may well be wrong) is that more users move from other distros to Slackware, than vice versa. If that's so, this would seem to be the most logical place to ask about differences. -- Theodore Heise <theo@heise.nu> Bloomington, IN, USA |

I don't think your perception is necessarily wrong, but someone who moved from a RedHat clone to Slackware this year will be more capable of noting differences than someone who moved five years ago. But I don't think that was the OP's question: a kernel compile worked in Slackware, but not in RedHat. I think only someone very knowledgable about RedHat's tools could possibly answer that question, and it's much more likely to find that person in a RedHat group/forum than here. --keith -- kkeller-mmmspam@wombat.san-francisco.ca.us (try just my userid to email me) AOLSFAQ=http://wombat.san-francisco.ca.us/cgi-bin/fom -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.6 (GNU/Linux) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org iEYEARECAAYFAj9gm04ACgkQhVcNCxZ5ID8OvwCdGKvumtWT/lF7Ow3L+9VnZSQD s1wAoJaJ5qwq9Uo+4WblpMZG3l4H83Kf =z12X -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

DOH! Mea culpa. I even read it twice--what's wrong with me? > But I don't think that was the OP's question: a kernel compile worked > in Slackware, but not in RedHat.
