Default Slack 10 - Weird Framebuffer - "Penguin" decided to stay for a while!

Hey guys, I'm having a weird behaviour with the console/framebuffer screen
after installing Slack 10 (all, kernel 2.4.26).

Just after booting, when the screen gets full of information, using the
command "less" or "more", for example, the (nice) penguin keeps there, and
I lose part of the information (can't read it, the lines corresponding to
the penguin keep there!, and the text seems scrolled behind).

I tried clear, and the problem kept for a while, than disappeared. Has
anyone got the same problem?

Regards!

Paulo

I have had that problem too, since Slack 9.1. I'm running current now and
I still have that problem occasionally. I'm thinking it's something with
the framebuffer resolution, but I haven't tracked it down yet.

Humm... I also have a Slack 9.1 and never had this problem there; note that
in both lilo starts the VESA framebuffer console @ 1024x768x256 (vga =
773)... But I had not such problem in Slack 9.1, only in Slack 10.0. But
the fact that you had the problem in 9.1 also suggests that the origin
probably is in something different... Maybe a script configuration?

Any tips, someone?

Regards!

Paulo

Also experienced the "hanging" penguin in 9.1 ( with less, more, man
right after boot and logon), but so far only on the thinkpad (neomagic,
vga=773). Didn't see it in 8.1 or on S3trio64, TNT Vanta cards. 'clear'
always worked, as does popping into and then back from a virtual
terminal, or opening a full screen editor like jed, or running mc, and
then exiting. Never bothered me much since I tend to go GUI right away
use console from there as needed.

About ready to snag a copy of 10. Real tempted to actually buy it -
planning on converting the home office with 2 PC and the thinkpad to
full slack/openoffice. I'll make a note in my log to post back with a
list of settings/cards if it occurs.

No, because I frequently switch virtual terminals. Try it and your
problem penguin will be gone.

A guy with a penguin on his head walks into a psychiatrist's office.
"Doc, how can I get this guy out from under me?" the penguin says.
A silly joke, but somehow it seems to fit the occasion.

I've experienced the same thing, and have no idea what the problem is.
What I have noticed, however, is when I edit something with vi,
the penguin disappears and I get the whole screen back.

Cheers!

Normally I do not login on the console, but I did a Slackware 9.1 install
a couple of weeks ago without X and have the same problem with the penguin.

It's a problem with framebuffer and is consistant across kernels and
distributions. It's not a big enough deal for anyone to care. Switch
virtual terminals, clear the screen, or do anything similar and the
problem disappears.
