| On my main machine my USB connected HP 5440 works fine. Now I have an odd problem as I didn't want to get a USB printer but got such a good deal I had to buy it. On another machine (on the LAN) is an old HP 500C on LPT1. I just recently upgraded the OS on that machine from 10.2 to 11. And now after working perfectly with 10.2 I am having this problem. The kernel modules are loading properly, CUPS is starting, dmesg reports a connected printer, /proc IO ports have the right port assigned, and CUPS configures the printer properly. Yet it just won't print. It's not the printer as it prints when I boot windows. Has anyone run into any similar problem? One thing I noticed (I saved my 10.2 install to a removable HD) is the file sizes on the ppd file is a bit different and so are the dates. I just doubled checked the kernel and the last gasp I have before I try a major repair is to try the older ppd file. I've considered my options here which range from forgetting about 11 on this machine and go to 12 or back to 10.2. I am also considering removing hpijs and/or cups and compiling from source. I'd even consider going shopping for another printer since they are so cheap these days. But there seems to be nothing wrong with the one I have now on that machine. But before I do anything drastic I thought I'd ask first if anyone had encountered same or similar. I'm getting lazy in my old age... -- Linux Help: http://rsgibson.com/linux.htm Email - rsgibson@verizon.borg Replace borg with net |

When you compared ppd files, did you look at the one in /etc/cups/ppd? That's what CUPS is using. Try going into the CUPS admin system, removing the printer and recreating it. -- Old Man "Swagger isn't courage." Lee Iacocca |

I removed cups and installed the version in testing for Slack 11 and now it works finally. -- Linux Help: http://rsgibson.com/linux.htm Email - rsgibson@verizon.borg Replace borg with net |
