| After a year of backing up my Slack 9.0 box with Storix and a Python 4mm drive, the Python bit the dust. I replaced it with an Exabyte 8505 and tried to resume my backups. Unfortunately, it appears that the Exabyte/Adaptec/Slack Kernel I am using does not play and is difficult to get to work. What to do for backups? I investigated a handful of programs - but most appear to be specifically designed for SCSI interface devices or for the wrong kernel, or for command line, etc. I finally pulled up K3B, my CD/DVD writing program, loaded a DVD into the drive, dragged the root icon in to the "copy" field, and tried to burn a disk with all my data on it. To my great surprise, K3b copied everything onto an ISO 9660 DVD in 18 minutes. It works! Not elegant, not flexible, no bells and whistles (cron, etc.) just a fast, complete, recoverable backup. Your mileage may vary. Worth a try. Regards, Marv |
