Has anyone used BitTorrent before? Is it worth opening a port
on my firewall for it?

I've just got both disks 9.1 using BitTorrent. Pretty fast I'd say (about
250KB/sec down and 50KB/sec up). And makes you feel warm and fuzzy because
of helping others.

However, I can't install 9.1 on my laptop somehow. I get a bad EIP value
with a hex dump shortly after booting the CD. Yes, the md5 sums match...
I'll think more about it in the morning.

Best,
Merl

I didn't have it installed until about 2 minutes before I started
downloading.

If you open the port on your firewall (as I did), it helps others to
download from you. I haven't noticed any difference in download speed
after opening the port. I got the first ISO at about 48-50KB/s, but
the second one is going rather slower (8-9KB/s).

Definitely yes. Finally we can download ISOs with reasonable speed.

Agrh! I've found the mistake. I was booting bare.i with my USB mouse
attached! All is well now.

Best,
Merl

It seems to be getting more popular by the day. At least, I keep
running in to it everywhere I look. lnx-bbc uses it, as well.

In fifteen minutes I'll continue my 9.1 ISO download on it, allowing
others, too.

I was getting about 13K/sec down and sharing about 15K/sec up when it
was running earlier (that uploading really bogged down my already
craptacular DSL).

As the other guy said, I'm gonna do it to share with folks. :-)

My download was a little slow also so I used
"--max_upload_rate 7" and the download rate went up by about
120-130K/sec on a cable connection.

The kpn site doesn't have 9.1 on it.
