| Hi, I recently installed Slackware 9.1 on my system. I used swaret and updated to 'current' (not the kernel) I really only have 2 issues with Slackware. 1. Alsa will not recognize my sound (Realtec ALC202 AC97) 2. will not recognize the built in wireless. (mini=pic type IIIB, 80211.b) That is all the infor I have, I may have to goto the vendor for better hardware information. Can anyone help me get sound or the wireless working? -Jason --------------------------------------------------------------- J. There aren't that many wireless ethernet interfaces (unlike wired!), so it might not hurt to load some of them to see if they work. And yes, getting some specs from the vendor would be very helpful. - --keith - -- kkeller-usenet@wombat.san-francisco.ca.us (try just my userid to email me) AOLSFAQ=http://wombat.san-francisco.ca.us/cgi-bin/fom -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.3 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFAFy7/hVcNCxZ5ID8RAg/hAJ9bkAY/GZHMIi5i/Nu7xBdpXdWXvQCfUmI3 bXyDufbqG8lKxi1F+gkHrMg= =QgEC -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

Hmmm, might want to try compiling your own kernel, using bare.i as a template, to check those drivers and make sure they're configured into the kernel as modules at least. > > Can anyone help me get sound or the wireless working? > > -Jason > > --------------------------------------------------------------- > J. | Check the TAr's inside. You have a problem with soundcard, because they are compiled for the 2.4.24 kernel. And if you are using for example 2.4.22 this is not going to work. It could be the same thing with wireless. Compile the sources by yourself. Kurek J. I am having a permissions problem, but I know not where. alsa works from root, yet not as a non-root user. root@wmr_srv01:/home/wmr $ aplay -D default /usr/lib/mozilla-1.4/res/samples/test.wav Playing WAVE '/usr/lib/mozilla-1.4/res/samples/test.wav' : Unsigned 8 bit, Rate 22050 Hz, Mono root@wmr_srv01:/ wmr@wmr_srv01:~ $ aplay -D default /usr/lib/mozilla-1.4/res/samples/test.wav ALSA lib pcm_hw.c:1055 failed: Permission denied aplay: main:484: audio open error: Permission denied wmr@wmr_srv01:~ $ I have already added wmr and users to the sys group.
