I did an essay on that with numbers and everything. No one cared. I was surprised that no one even challenged the numbers!! Marketshare is rather meaningless to Slackware as well as other "non-corporate" distro's as the software only has to generate enough income to support one guy. And marketshare is an overrated stat anyway. Apple has only about 5% of the PC desktops yet it's stock is high, it has new products, and the company is doing OK.... although I don't know how much of that is based on iPod sales as opposed to computers and software. I think the Macintosh 'division' makes enough to pay its way and I'm sure that P.V. makes a good living on Slackware, if my previous numbers are anywhere near the target. Al C. |
