True, software companies don't dare to publish commercial software under Linux, because they fear it would be pirated. For example: IBM (& Dassault systemes) is producing the "killer app" CATIA-software suite only for Windows and AIX. They could anytime publish it under Linux - they even admitted that inside IBM, they've long compiled it under Linux! It would be foolish now to conclude they want the AIX/Power5-platform to be sold and boycott Lin-tel machines: Nope, they're move not to support Linux is achieving the opposite: Users are driven to use the cheaper Windows-machines! The real reason is that they have REASONABLE DOUBT that Linux users that paid $0.00 for their OS (and found the PC's motherboard somewhere on an electronics junk-yard) would EVER pay $50.000,00 for a piece of software... In other words, only those users that have paid a chunk of money for the operating system are trusted also to pay for software lateron |

It's not like they haven't ported it; they've been selling the commercial version for Linux for many years. They're just scairt of the Open Source community... |
