| *** post for FREE via your newsreader at post.newsfeed.com *** For the life of me I have tried many distros of Linux and always something comes up. Just obtained a Dell Dimension 2400 and thought I would give it a try again. I tried installing Slackware 9.0 using the vesa option and also the Generic i810 option - my BIOS is set to give me 8MB of video memory - but I cannot boot into anything greater than 256 colors at 640x480. Running the same program in Virtual PC on Windoze XP Professional (?) Slackware works great - boots into 24-bit and the sound is easy enough (figure out modprobe sb). So I am left with a very good copy of Slackware running very nicely on my Desktop - accessing DSL through VPC networking - but cannot get it to natively run! Any thoughts or articles about the i845 chip? thanks -----= Posted via Newsfeed.Com, Uncensored Usenet News =----- http://www.newsfeed.com - The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! -----== 100,000 Groups! - 19 Servers! - Unlimited Download! =----- |

Since Slackware 9.1, everything is perfect. Mikhail |

It runs with the i810 driver, without any problems. I even get direct rendering, as per glxinfo: OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI Intel(R) 845G 20021115 x86/MMX+/SSE2 This is with Slackware 10.0, but it ran with Slackware 9.0 as well. |

I think I am slowly learning how things work - first distro was the two-floppy disk set based on slackware 4.0 - BasicLinux. Hope it works - looks real nice on Virtual PC in full- screen mode. |
