Hi all
I have a pc running slack 10.0 and I want to upgrade it now to 10.2
I can follow the instructions in the file UPGRADE.txt or not?
This file is for upgrade 10.1 to 10.2

Yes, I tried it and it works. But, then I was left with gnome and not
sure how to pick which packages to 'removepkg'. So, I decided to
reinstall rather than waste time trying to figure it out.

I followed this file's instructions to upgrade 10.0 to 10.1 six months
ago, and recently brought the 10.1 up to 10.2 with excellent results.
I'd guess that you could do 10.0 to 10.2 all right. Couldn't believe how
easy it was.

Remove Gnome-packages, Slackware 10.1 --> 10.2

cd /var/log/packages

removepkg gnome* at-spi bug-buddy control-center eel
eog file-roller gail gcalctool gconf-* gdm gedit ggv
ghex glade gnopernicus gnumeric gok gpdf gst*
gthumb gtk-engines hicolor-icon-theme intltool libbonobo*
libcroco libgail-gnome libgnome* libgtop libwnck libxklavier
metacity mpeg2dec nautilus* orbit2 scrollkeeper totem vte yelp

Copy&paste all in one line and be happy;-)

Do not remove:
libgtkhtml
libidl
libmikmod
librsvg
shared-mime-info

This packages are moved from slackware/gnome to other directorys.

I figured this out by compare package.txt from slackware 10.1 and 10.2
Sorry, if I forget one or two packarges. But I don't think so.

well, extra step to make it perfect would be migrating to .new files.
mostly. i like to keep it clean, but i did have to migrate couple
important settings to .new files.

for sure, i looked at all the .new files and compared them to the old
ones, i didn't just install all the .new stuff as that script would
allow you to do. you're right, that's probably the touchy part of the
upgrade.
jeez, slackware's getting to be too easy, or am i just getting old

Or, if you've got time for some playing, install slackpkg (from extra/)
and type

slackpkg clean-system remove all packages removed from slackware
main distribution. Good to keep the house in order

(copied from the slackpkg response when typing just "slackpkg"
in a console). I haven't tried this for myself and I don't know what
happens to third-party-packages either. The manpage says something about
"you can decide[...]", but no guarantees from my side.

Might be a good idea to keep gnome-libs .
Some programs you may download for compilation, may use those.
