| I think udev hasn't created devices for sound in /dev but i don't understand howcome. it's always like that when i intall a new version of alsa or upgrade the kernel I'm using the generic-smp kernel I think i have quite a lot to do |

I've just installed it on my laptop and after running alsaconf I ran alsamixer as usual but the card wasn't muted and the volume was turned up. So sound was up after running alsaconf. -- Thomas O. So sound was up > after running alsaconf. hmmmmmmmm. it seems alsaconf does the un-mute for you, automagically. in my case, i didn't know about alsaconf, and so did the un-mute the oldfashioned way, with alsamixer. i'm using the generic-smp kernel on a Dell 800 lapper, plain vanilla full install, and the only problems (so far) are with the ATI M4 video.
