Apology for the long lines.

http://developers.slashdot.org/comme...ad&cid=7037499

Seems that yet again Slackware has come through clean on another
OpenSSH vulnerability that includes PAM. Again, to be fair, the problem
is with OpenSSH and not PAM.

Who does "DA-MAN" remind you of?

Definitely not Pat.

Interesting how Pat says that PAM 'makes sendmail look mighty
bug free'. I dunno if I'd agree there, though PAM certainly
does have a whole lotta holes. I wish Pat would switch to
postfix or some other MTA.

I really have my suspicions as to whether this "volkerdi" user is
the genuine article. I can't decide on way or another.

I remember having the same suspicion, and I looked for all his posts
some time back. I can't say definitively, but I do get the feeling that
it's really Pat. You could ask him. Anyway I'll bet he HAS been asked,
and if it's an imposter he probably would have made an issue of it. Or
not.

I don't normally read /. however ... maybe a regular /.er could say
more. Is the user number low enough to be credible?

Personally, I have absolutely no idea. I'm not a /.er myself.

I don't agree, regardless of personal preference, Slack aims to be 'the
most unix-like', sendmail is the de-facto standard MTA for *NIX, so Pat
should stick to that.

You can have a look for yourselves at:

I don't know the man, but he must have a sense of humor.
(Hope he's not the one who keeps sending in the goatse.cx posts)

IIRC postfix supports everything that sendmail supports except
sendmail's config files, which are unsupportable anyways.
He certainly couldn't switch to qmail, for example, since it does
not support everything in the same way sendmail does.

Besides, postfix is unix-like, too.

Amen! Hmmm, this gets me wondering how the bat was chosen for the
cover of the bat book. Perl's camel makes sense: perl is big, slow,
ugly, but very powerful. Bats ... always chasing bugs: yes, that
fits.

Qmail takes a Unix system and turns it into DJBNIX.

That is Pat. i have him flagged as a friend ages ago. If it is not Pat then
he knows an awful lot about Slackware.

Notice the historical knowledge in the post
http://developers.slashdot.org/comme...39&cid=7006344

Also he has a four digit UID on Slashdot. Which is quite good. Better than
my 6 digit one. He probably joined up when it was worth reading.
