Well, it can be a good idea then to post the answers to questions
following the question and not at any place you happen to be
when you finally get the idea somonee asked a question to you ...-)

Besides, just giving partial results out of context is not the
preferred style for techies ;D)

Anyway, as you seem to have forgotten most of the previous posts
around sound, alsa and methods of investigation on them, let's
give a final try.

You said your card was a SBLive 24bits, is that right ?
If so, what gives :

# lsmod | grep ca0106

if it doesn't give any ouput, please then, list a few things, like :

# lsmod | grep snd
# lspci -vv | awk '/udio/' RS=

Well, I'll stop here, that's already more than you appear to
manage per thread, usually, but I think you can try it out, by now ;-)

These responses are not helpful. If you have sound output working on
the ca0106 ALSA driver, then you most likely have the same
SoundBlaster Live 24bit card that I do. See the following web page:

http://alsa.opensrc.org/index.php?page=audigyls

If the "experienced" people on this list had bothered to look up the
driver information on the ca0106, they could have told you that the
mic input does not work due to driver immaturity issues and its not
related to all these other suggestions. I'm also frustrated that the
ALSA soundcard listing for this driver does not mention that the
driver doesn't support mic input yet. I guess I'll have to find
another card for my MythTV setup. :-(

I have saince upgraded my motherboard and it has AC97 on it and works
like a charm with the Alsa driver 1.0.9rc3

Well, this is not totally fair nor accurate, trouble was at the time we
tried and find a clue, each time we asked a question in context of her
previous question, her next answer was totally outta space ...

We suggested the OP to read some other thread which ran a few days
and hours before that could have help her a lot.

Anyway in this very thread, it was dearly suggested at some
time that she'd try a simple test :

>> Test this :
>> # amixer |grep control

The lack of any Mic line in the results would've oriented the
inspired reader that there maybe was some trouble in hw, thus
entice someone to a further search.

Alas, the lack of interest to this question from the OP
indulged us to think that maybe it was not such a crucial question
afterall for her, or maybe she'd binstalled another soundcard ;-)
Yu know, for us, not having the actual scard, we don't have a
better workbench than the OP's )

I agree on this, the Alsa pages are almost as smokey as their docs,
but I can fell they improve, slowly, in some places, somtimes.
