And Pat even blacklisted the OSS modules in the hotplug config so ALSA modules are loaded instead. I really like ALSA. :-) If he adds the module-init-tools and sets something up to have it switch between them and modutils... start lookin' for that 2.6.0testx stuff :-) - -- Rob | If not safe, Email and Jabber: | one can never be free. athlonrob at axpr dot net | <--Just updated -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Comment: Key ID 0x838E01ED - Available from www.keyserver.net iD8DBQE/VPrChm6KEoOOAe0RAkIYAKCSV1lvVRQ0AutN/W8Ox6svw8QZBQCgpInk YQmvJ8Z5DNFyhtoACEUIX4M= =sfYU -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

| Hi there, AthlonRob <athlonrob@nodomainhere.ext> writes: [...] >If he adds the module-init-tools and sets something up to have it switch >between them and modutils... start lookin' for that 2.6.0testx stuff >:-) AFAICS, there is no need to switch between them as module-init-tools are backward compatible (at least in my experience). The "modutils" should be preserved as, e.g., insmod.old (there is a installation step that does this when installing module-init-tools). modules.conf remains unchanged, as module-init-tools use modprobe.conf (modules.conf can be converted by generate-modprobe.conf). In terms of a Slackware package, what would be needed is a package containing the moved-aside "old" utils and the new module-init-tools stuff. The rc.modules does not need to be changed, in my experience, as long as modules loaded in that file are available for both kernels. (I don't load much in rc.modules, BTW, so YMMV. I.e. there might be some "magic" needed for modules that only exist in 2.4, like -in my particular case - i810_audio in 2.4.x and snd_intel8x0 in 2.6.0-test, if you insist on loading them in rc.modules). So far, hotplug hasn't bitten me either in my "dual boot setup" with kernels 2.4.22 and 2.6.0-test4. So I think, there shouldn't be too much of a problem of whipping something up.
