| I'm not able to get a 2.6.16 kernel (gentoo-sources) working with nvidia-kernel. If I do a simple upgrade I keep my nvidia-kernel-1.0.6629-r5. But after recompiling this module (because of the 2.6.16 upgrade) the module is not loaded: | WARNING: //lib/modules/2.6.16-suspend2-r4/video/nvidia.ko needs unknown | symbol remap_page_range | | WARNING: //lib/modules/2.6.16-suspend2-r4/video/nvidia.ko needs unknown | symbol pci_find_class So I tried a newer masked nvidia-kernel (it doesn't matter which version). The module compiles and I don't get the error mentioned above. The module was even loaded, but X fails to start. dmesg tells something (I have no log with the message) about "Your client doesn't support versioning!!". I'm using a nvidia 6800GT AGP. -- http://hommingberger-gepardenforelle.malkusch.de/ |

I have same video card and have had no problem with 2.6.16-gentoo-r7 and nvidia-glx-1.0.8762 & nvidia-kernel-1.0.8762. ALso all previous versions of above mentioned software have worked. You will need to provide following info to help us troubleshoot your problem: kernel config - i.e. do you have agp gart compiled in etc. ( recommend not and use nvidia's output of dmesg xorg.conf Are your kernel source files installed and same version as installed kernel? Hmm...that should be good for now. -- Please reply to cappycdn aatt gmail ddott com |

| I solved the problems with 2.6.16 and nvidia stable by installing the 1.0.8762 drivers, and it works... sort of -- The video quality is really crappy now. I have problems with horizontal flickering lines, in higher resolutions, and I can't figure out how to get rid of them. I tried a couple (but not all, due to bw) of the unstable nvidia drivers, but all I've tried had the same problem. Anyone else had problems with video quality after upgrading to nvidia unstable? Found a solution? -- \ldots |
