| Dear gentoo-ists: I have an envy24 [ice1712] audio card under ALSA under gentoo amd64. for the most part, it is working. but occasionally I get panels like "failed to open audio output ALSA 1.2.10 output plugin". there is no relevant message in /var/log/messages when this happens. after a while, it works again. (I can also switch to arts, and this will work for a while, until the same thing happens.) I wonder if this is some sort of race condition, where something else wants to grab the audio device. how do I track what is happening? sincerely, /iaw |
